One Person Less

The thought of death scares the daylight out of me and I fiercely avoid pondering over it. However, hearing the news of an untimely death, forces me to start deliberating over so much.

Is the human body like an ordinary machine? A defect in one of the parts, if not repaired in time, can cause a major malfunction, which results in the breakdown of the machine.

I just don't understand how a living being can just close his eyes, never to open them again. This question probably lead to the belief in souls and spirits.

Maybe, there's a spirit within us, which leaves our body when we die, but after leaving our body, are we still conscious of our surroundings?

It's just very difficult to digest that a person's just gone. He's gone forever, leaving behind memories in the vacuum of the mind.

Seeing gory pictures of blood and battle don't jolt me as much as seeing ordinary selfies of people who no longer remain in personhood. It's sad they would never smile for a camera again. It's sad they would never finish that book. It's sad that the fight would never be resolved. It's sad they would never be able to listen to that album. Above all, it's sad that out of hundreds, they were the causalities.

It's sad that there's one person less on earth.

Miss Peppermint asks:

If you knew that you are never again going to see the person you just spoke to, would you be satisfied with the last conversation?

Loved this piece. Almost all of us feel the same and have similar fears and doubts but we hardly express them like this. Keep writing.

Fear of death stems from our inability to comprehend life itself. The answer is inherent in the journey itself, the end is quite inconsequential.
